Cortes Burning Ships Tiffany Window Cartoon, c. August 11, 1930
This color cartoon, for the second medallion of the Spanish Discovery Window at the Levere Memorial Temple Chapel, depicts Hernan Cortes burning his ships as he embarks on the conquest of Mexico in 1519. In the Levere Memorial Temple Chapel, the Spanish Discovery Window is Clerestory Window #3. This design was not approved and a new design was eventually submitted. Significant handwritten notes appear around the perimeter of the cartoon.
